jip en janneke low power cluster

by JeP — last modified May 07, 2009 09:18 PM

Today I attended the NLUUG Netherlands Unix User Group Conference about storage and filesystems. The most amazing talk was about a "Jip en Janneke" cluster that only consumes 10 Watts in total.

The developer of this low energy, high availability system is Dr.ir. Rick van Rein, the system is based on commodity hardware (fit-pc) and uses only open standards / open source software.

Rick claims his solution is more secure and has higher availability than raid1 because both hosts in the cluster (named Jip and Janneke) can easily be located at different sides of the building (or even further if you wish).

The design is also extremely usefull in a high availability, low cost voip SIP PBX setup.
